Santa Clara, NM – Nuestra Tierra Conservation Project, Continental Divide Trail Coalition and Native Outdoors are partnering to bring together environmental advocates, philanthropists, change-makers, and local community leaders in support of the cultural preservation, community storytelling, and conservation initiatives surrounding the Gila River in New Mexico and the Southwest. We welcome all of Southern New Mexico to join us and celebrate this wonderful free-flowing river. The celebration will be held March 22nd, from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at Open Space Brewery.

“The Gila River Legacy & Reconciliation Gathering” is a celebration centered on the Gila Wilderness Centennial, the gathering will highlight the significance of the Gila River and the Greater Gila Ecosystem, focusing on its rich cultural heritage, the art of community storytelling, the importance of maintaining its wild and scenic beauty, and the delicate balance of responsible stream access.

This event is open to the public. There will be local storytellers, community leaders, and musicians who will come together for an opening blessing to share and highlight their lived and learned connections and relationship with the Gila River. The gathering will be a commemoration of the significance and legacy of the Gila and its surrounding landscape and serve as a catalyst for the next 100 years of conservation efforts in the Southwest.
