An Update From Our Canis Lupus Baileyi Friends And Neighbors Of Southwest New Mexico
We're Heading South!

Several packs of Mexican wolves began the evacuation from Bernalillo County late on Friday, September 15. Nuacht Aoir is able to report – exclusively – that the Mexican wolves are coming home to Southwest New Mexico.
One wolf commented – through a wolf-to-human translator, of course – that the Mexican wolves have had it with the Governor of New Mexico.
Some of the comments of the she-wolf in this on-the-record exclusive interview (edited to remove foul language, of course) were made during a rest-break in an undisclosed location in Valencia County:
"We're disillusioned by the actions of Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham," said the she-wolf who goes by the canis lupus baileyi name that translates to "Dottie" in English.
"The Governor first invited us up to Bernalillo County by outlawing guns in large parts of the county," Dottie stated. "Then she changes mind and decides that it's okay for humans to carry weapons in most every place in the county."
"We thought it would be great to get a change of scenery by heading north," Dottie continued. "Our folks thought it might be a good time of the year to get to know the wilds of the City of Albuquerque. We heard that there were a lot of tasty food options in the City and its suburban communities – more than we had in the rural areas of the Southwest."
Dottie noted that many of the wolf packs had just arrived in Bernalillo County only to find out that it was longer a mostly gun-free zone.
"Why would we leave one area that has a bunch of law-abiding citizens that carry guns and move to another area with a population that also loves its guns?" Dottie asked. "We wolves know Catron County like the back of our paws. We're pretty familiar with large sections of Grant, Hidalgo, and Luna Counties too."
"The water in the Gila is pure," Dottie continued. "Up in Bernalillo County, we didn't know which streams were best to drink from in the area. It was worth it when we knew that our hunting grounds had expanded tremendously and we didn't have to worry about some American citizen claiming their Constitutional rights. But the Governor's turn-about changed everything."
While the U S Constitution does not explicitly protect the rights of Mexican wolves, a variety of Federal laws and regulations do protect our canis lupus baileyi friends and neighbors.
"We're not idiots," stated Dottie. "We know that the entire country was focused on what the Governor of New Mexico was doing. We figured she'd stand up for the rights of people to be free from those foolish rights enshrined in the Second Amendment. We figured she'd provide us with the necessary cover for the Mexican wolves to take our rightful place in the capital of this state."
"Unfortunately, we feel like we were used as tools for a political ploy," commented Dottie. "Why would the Governor give us hope that we would have an almost totally gun-free county in the United States when she must have known that even people who share her policy perspectives would not support her going this far."
Dottie indicated that the Mexican wolves are new to politics.
"We actually thought that the Governor would welcome the return of the Mexican wolves to Bernalillo County," said Dottie. "We're very disappointed. We noted that she back-tracked on the first day of Hispanic Heritage Month. Shameful."
Nuacht Aoir has learned that the return of the Mexican wolves to Southwest New Mexico will likely be completed at about 4:15 AM (local time) on Wednesday, September 20.
Dottie did say that several of the Mexican wolves enjoyed the trip up north.
"You should have seen some of those humans run," Dottie concluded. "And some of those dogs? It's like they never saw a wolf pack before."
She did confirm that the Mexican wolves will return to Bernalillo County at some point, noting that the section of New Mexico south of Interstate 40 – including large areas of Bernalillo County – are explicitly included in Wolf Management Zone 2. This includes large sections of the City of Albuquerque.
"We'll be back," Dottie stated as the she-wolf concluded the interview with Nuacht Aoir. "We intend to claim the entire Mexican Wolf Experimental Population Area. We just won't depend on the word of a politician like Governor Lujan Grisham ever again."
Please note: Nuacht Aoir did not see any response from President Joseph (Joe) Biden regarding the abridgement of Constitutional rights in the county with the largest population in the one state that has always been a majority minority state within the United States of America.
