Our founding fathers knew that people were fallible especially when put in positions of power. Politics is a dirty profession and it was never meant to be a career. It was accepted as a necessary evil to perform very limited functions and with its power limited so as to prevent that which our founding fathers had escaped. Obviously it has not lasted.

Nevada's state legislature has given us another reason not to trust politicians. In the closing days of their most recent session, legislators were considering assembly bill 423. The purpose of the bill was to prevent local school boards from holding meetings at times that were inconvenient for the majority of parents who wanted to attend and participate. Especially in Clark and Washoe County, where many of the woke programs were being pushed, school board members had gotten tired of pushback from parents and were holding meetings at times when most parents were working and could not attend. The bill had unanimous bipartisan support and was touted for its focus on transparency and openness.

Of course, several Democrats had a plan to pass legislation that did not have unanimous nor bipartisan support. As the bill was presented on the floor of the assembly for a vote, Democrats attached an amendment. The amendment would punish any school district that enacted a rule preventing students from utilizing facilities or having access to activities based upon their gender identification. The punishment would be a $5000 a day fine. Several Democrats spoke publicly saying this was targeting some of the "cow counties" that had put rules in place preventing biological males from using female locker rooms and participating in sports as a female.

Whether you agree with the purpose of the amendment or not is irrelevant for this discussion. What is relevant is that Democrats bypassed what I believe should be the process for every piece of legislation. It should be introduced into committee where it can be openly debated, published for public review, and have public input. I also believe that any amendment attached to a bill should be directly and unequivocally related to the stated purpose of the original bill.

By bypassing this process, they have enacted legislation in one of the most untransparent ways possible. There was no debate from any elected representative, no chance to amend the law, no publication prior to enacting it which would have allowed for public comment. The irony of doing this by attaching it to a law which required more transparency from another governmental body was apparently lost on the Democrats in the state assembly. Just kidding, they couldn't care less about following the rules they impose upon others. They believe they know better than the rest of us and our opinions or desires are irrelevant.

And let's be clear, they are not the only political body that engages in this type of behavior. Sadly it is prevalent in every political institution in this country and practiced by members of each and every party that has a seat at the table. The question is, when are you going to get mad enough to do something about it?
