THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION HAS ENDED.

HERE ARESOME HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE FINAL DAYS:
More burdens on small businesses and working families:

The legislature approved a burdensome new law to force New Mexico businesses to offer paid sick leave. At a time when our small businesses are shutting down or barely hanging on, adding still more red tape and expenses on them is the worst possible idea. We also saw a new tax on health insurance passed, yet another unnecessary and harmful move that will hold New Mexico back.

Reining in the Governor:

Unfortunately, the bipartisan legislation that would curb the Governor's emergency powers through which she has kept our state under severe lockdowns, did not make it through before adjournment. RPNM is disappointed that the legislature did not stand up for the people in this instance, and we will continue to advocate for the reopening of of our state!

Redistricting bill passes, awaits Governor's signature:

Senate Bill 304, which creates a bipartisan independent redistricting commission to solicit public input and recommend three possible redistricting plans to the legislature, has passed both chambers overwhelmingly and now awaits the Governor's signature. Speaker Brian Egolf has been very clear that he wants to use the redistricting process to his own partisan advantage, and this bill should make it harder for him to do so.

Recreational marijuana does NOT pass:

Governor Lujan Grisham's recreational marijuana bill was NOT taken up for a full vote, a blow to her radical agenda. RPNM is glad that the legislature agreed that now, with all the problems New Mexico is facing, is not the time to be legalizing drugs and putting more roadblocks to success in front of our citizens. However, the Governor is now threatening to call a special session to try and push her marijuana agenda through. RPNM will keep you apprised of further developments on this issue.
