I had the privilege of seeing Ron Troy of the New Mexico Land Conservancy make a presentation recently at the Silver City UU.

I was quite impressed with this gentleman's presentation and it got me thinking about how my own habits and desires affect my surroundings.

A Conservancy is a group or body of people concerned with the preservation of Nature, its Species, and its Natural Resources.

So when a question comes to mind—concerning the New Mexico Land Conservancy—such as
"What can I personally do to help?"

Is it a stretch for me to think of my own house of two as a Conservancy, and at a minimum to consider ways that I can conserve Natural Resources?

Maybe when we want to go hiking, do our best to find another couple and share the trip and fuel and wear and tear on the vehicle? Or maybe go to Pinos Altos twice per year instead of twice per month?

How about growing as much food in my garden as possible so I need less trips to the store, and am keeping a shorter 'farm to table' distance?

Those are definitely ways I can help the NM Land Conservancy; by being the best "Conservancy" I can be, right at my front door, or back door.
