ALBUQUERQUE — Steve Pearce, candidate for Governor of New Mexico, released the following statement on immigration today:

"My opponent is saying no to compromise, no to fixing our immigration system, and yes to more of the same. My opponent wants the issues, not the solution. This is epitomized with the insistence that the only solution for DREAMERs is a bill so unpopular it wasn't even considered when Democrats controlled the House, Senate, and the White House. My opponent shutdown the government over this bill. My opponent voted against a solution to our current policy of separating families over this bill. My opponent voted against securing our border over this bill.

"Rarely is a bill perfect but we have to make progress on these issues. I stand with New Mexicans who know we must reform our nation's broken immigration system. I stand with those who understand that progress must take place. To some politicians, including my opponent, compromise will never be good enough.

"It does not have to be this way. For years, I have worked with Democrats and Republicans to bridge the differences between our parties and within them. Today's vote makes it clear, my opponent will never fix our broken immigration system and never secure our border. New Mexico does not need more cynical partisanship and demonization, it needs a leader who will get results."
