SCHOOLS RESUME ONLINE LEARNING AMID ECONOMIC INEQUALITY

Children across the state went back to school last week—via the internet. Despite cases dramatically falling across the state, Gov. Lujan Grisham has decided to keep schools closed until at least after Labor Day. This is causing detrimental harm to our children and our future generation of New Mexicans. Online school has led to inequitable treatment of our children as not all children have equal access to the internet, technology, and an environment that is conducive to online learning. Our children deserve to go back to school; the science is in and children are not the problem. It's time to let our children go back to school and receive the proper education they are entitled to.

There is no reason why businesses should continue to be shuttered. We watched mass gatherings at protests over the summer and at big box stores like Walmart—meanwhile mom-and-pop shops were forced to close their doors permanently. While other states have continued to reopen their economies and build back their prosperity, we remain stuck. Governor, it's time to reopen New Mexico.
