According to http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/usc000rnfe#summary
It seems, although the earthquake was felt from El Paso, Texas, to Albuquerque, NM, and Phoenix, Ariz., it was centered around Duncan, Ariz.
Earthquakes are not uncommon in NM, with some large shocks on the Rio Grande Rift, especially between Socorro and Albuquerque.
Quakes almost always occur along fault lines.
A map of earthquakes in the U.S. over the past 24 hours can be viewed at http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/
If you zoom out you can watch as earthquakes pop out all over the world. The major earthquake zone lines can be seen on the map, delineating clearly what is called the Ring of Fire around the Pacific Ocean.
