Grant County 4-H: Grant County was represented at the 2013 State 4-H Conference by, from left, Sinea Runnels, Wyatt Moon, Tyler Monzingo, Kelsy Taylor, Clell Bays, Brandon Brown, Sabrina Thuerauf, Tanah Lowe, and Kat Blakeslee (not pictured).

Nine 4-H youths from Grant County attended the 2013 State 4-H Conference in Las Cruces earlier this month, bringing home numerous awards, two team championships, and plenty of enthusiasm for their contests and the program.


The Hippology team won first place, with teammates Kat Blakeslee, Sabrina Thuerauf and Tanah Lowe.

Sabrina Thuerauf won third high individual and Tanah Lowe placed second high individual. The Horse Bowl team, made up of Sabrina Thuerauf, Tanah Lowe, Kat Blakeslee and Clell Bays, was fourth overall in tough competition.


The Wildlife team won as well, handling all the competition with ease. Brandon Brown was fourth high individual, Sinea Runnels was third, Tyler Monzingo placed second, and Wyatt Moon won high individual in the event.


The Land team of Kelsy Taylor, Brandon Brown and Sinea Runnels placed second in team competition. Sinea Runnels was fourth high individual.

The Pasture & Range team placed third, with teammates Sinea Runnels, Wyatt Moon and Tyler Monzingo.


All nine placed either individually or as a team, reminding everyone there that Grant County is a force to be reckoned with in 4-H competition. In addition, they attended workshops, participated in the election of new state officers, went to dances, and helped each other prepare for competition.
