Incident name: Blue Jay Fire

Start date:  September 28, 2011

Location:  Holt Mountain (on spur ridge), western part of Gila Wilderness on Glenwood Ranger District; 6 miles southeast of Glenwood, NM; 6 miles northeast of Pleasanton, NM.   Smoke is visible off U.S. 180 and as far as the Gila/Cliff area 20 miles south of fire location.

Legal description: T12 South, R19 west, Section 10 (top third of the slope)

Cause: lightning

Acres burned:  approximately 15

Elevation: 8,500 ft.

Area vegetation:  ponderosa pine, piƱon, juniper, and brush

Management strategy: fire is currently being monitored by fire personnel
