Silver City, NM; November 9, 2011 For Veterans Day this Friday,  November 11th, U.S. veterans, members of the U.S. armed forces and their families will be admitted free-of-charge to Gila National Forest day-use or overnight camping at the following recreation sites that normally charge a fee:

At Quemado Lake, the Piñon, Juniper, and Juniper RV Campgrounds are currently closed for the duration of the cold season.  The Dipping Vat Campground at Snow Lake remains open for public use; no day-use or overnight camping fees are being charged due to the water system being turned off to prevent freezing.

“Fee Free” Veterans Day honors U.S. veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the good of the Nation.  “I am pleased that we can offer this small benefit to U.S. Veterans and members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families,” comments Gila Forest Supervisor Kelly Russell.

In observance of Veterans Day, Gila National Forest offices will be closed November 11th.   Normal office hours resume on Monday, November 14th.
