Synopsis:          Arrest

Location:          Silver City, New Mexico

Narrative:

On November 9, 2011, at about 7:16pm, Silver City Police Department officers took into custody a suspect wanted on a felony warrant after a high-speed pursuit.

Nick Martinez, 31, from 515 Skyview Drive in Silver City, was arrested on a warrant after a high-speed pursuit through the northeast side of town. The pursuit began when an officer recognized the vehicle as being one of the vehicles operated by Joshua Villa in past encounters. Villa is wanted on an outstanding felony warrant. The officer observed there were three individuals in the vehicle at the time. The officer also saw there was a mechanical violation on the vehicle and attempted to stop the vehicle near the intersection of Leslie and 32nd.

The driver then attempted to elude the officer; however, the vehicle became high-centered in a ditch near the North Swan Street water tanks. According to the officer, two male subjects ran from the vehicle on foot. The officer was able to catch one of the male subjects, who was identified as Martinez. Martinez was arrested and transported to the Silver City Police Department for processing. He was then transported to the Grant County Detention Center where he was booked in. His bond totaled $26,173.00.

The other male subject was not located.

Martinez was wanted on a warrant issued out of Magistrate Court, Division I, for Accessory to Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, both 4th degree felonies. The charges stem from an incident, which occurred on October 22, 2011, in the 300 block of W. Spring Street.

Martinez was also charged with Resisting, Evading a Police Officer and with an additional warrant out of Magistrate Court, Division II, for Failure to Pay Fines.

Villa, 22, with a last known address in Mimbres, NM, also has an outstanding warrant for his arrest on the charges of Accessory to Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, related to the same incident.

Anyone having information on the whereabouts of Villa can call the Grant County Dispatch Center at 575-388-8840 or the Silver City Police Department at 575-538-3723.
