The public is invited to participate in the Veterans Day ceremonies at Fort Bayard National Cemetery, beginning at 9:45 a.m., Friday, Nov. 11, 2011.

The event is hosted by American Legion Post 18, but will also involve other veterans groups.

The featured speaker is retired Western New Mexico University professor Dale Giese, who is also a founding member of the Fort Bayard Historic Preservation Society to save Old Fort Bayard, as well as being a member of Operation Fort Bayard, striving to put the old fort to use as a veterans destination for treatment or vacation.
