At least 80 to 100 kids and parents showed up at the Hurley Park on Saturday, April 8, 2017, to take part in an Easter egg hunt hosted by the Grant County Federated Republican Women.

Many of the eggs had prizes in them, including free tickets to the circus, which will take place on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. across from the park.

Candy Luhrsen, who organized the event, said one of the members suggested they do an Easter egg hunt for children.

"We decided to do it in Hurley because the people are friendly and the park is nice," Luhrsen said.

"Most of us have grandchildren who live far away, so we did this for the children that live in the Mining District," she said.

They group was helped out by Dora Simpson, who has put on Easter egg hunts at Fort Bayard for the past three years, but couldn't this year. However, she helped out with the Eastern Bunny costume and other supplies.

"We put out at least 500 eggs," Luhrsen said. "We didn't know how many to expect."
