Due to a technicality on notifying the public of the May 16 board meeting, the district called a special meeting, according to board president Mike McMillan. He said he called the State Attorney General's office and was told if Silver had a special meeting within 15 days, there would be no infraction of the open meetings act.

On this agenda, all the board votes from the last meeting were called up again and re-voted to satisfy the situation. Additionally, there were a few add-ons, as some conditions had changed and it was convenient to make the changes now. All board members were present: Frances Vasquez, Patrick Cohn, Ashley Montenegro and Justin Wecks. This meeting began at 5:03 p.m. and ended before 5:30.

Items on the consent agenda included April checks of $2,298,408.65, donations of $53,000 for the technology department, $80,000 for the vo-tech program and $38,500 for Harrison Schmitt 5th graders’ iPads, all from Freeport McMoRan. Two BARs, budget adjustment requests, asked to move $2500 each from House Bill 33 funds and Senate Bill 9 funds for the one percent reappraisal fees for capital improvements. These are transferred from operations to administrative funds.

Another thousand dollars was requested for National History Day Nationals. A budget reduction of $30,463.94 represented the State’s pull-back of Silver’s instructional materials budget. These votes carried the consent agenda.

On the individual vote action items, the board reselected Robert W. Baird and Co. as the bond underwriter for general obligation bonds for the $5 million beginning of the $20 million bond issue recently passed. It re-authorized that $5 million amount with another vote. And it re-authorized Superintendent Brown to sign for the approval of the right-of-way easements for Jose Barrios, Harrison Schmitt and Sixth Street, hoping that work will be finished by the time school starts in August.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for June 20 at 6:00 p.m. It will be preceded at 5:30 by a special meeting. The board voted to go into executive session just before 5:30. It returned later saying no decisions had been made on the topics discussed, and it adjourned before 6:30.
