Thursday, May 23, 2019, about 2:26 p.m., Silver City police officers were dispatched to 1506 N. Gold Street in reference to a domestic disturbance. The caller advised a dispatcher at the Grant County Regional Dispatch Authority, that he had been stabbed by his ex-girlfriend, Monique R. Marrufo, 29, of Silver City, and that she continued to hit him. The 35-year-old male advised he was bleeding from his lip, back, and leg.

When officers arrived, they had contact with both parties. However, the female was uncooperative and had to be placed on the ground and handcuffed, according to a police report. At that point she kicked one of the officers. EMS was called for both, which the victim refused, the Beat was told.

The report describes how Marrufo followed the victim to his home in her vehicle, refusing to leave after being asked by the victim several times. The two engaged in a tussle over keys to both vehicles. The victim found himself on the ground with Marrufo on top of him, according to the report, at which time he felt pain in his right thigh and saw Marrufo holding his red-handled knife in her right hand. The victim, the report stated, said he had the knife in his pocket and that Marrufo must have grabbed it.

Marrufo was arrested on charges of battery on a police officer, battery on a household member, battery on a household member with a deadly weapon, and interference with communications, and transported to Gila Regional Medical Center for treatment. According to Grant County Detention Center staff, Marrufo was booked into that facility on Thursday, May 23, and released on her own recognizance on Friday, May 24.
