Silver City police officers were dispatched on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020, at approximately 4:03 p.m., to 1605 W. Market Street #29 in reference to a public service call with Vanessa Simpson, 37, of the address. According to a police report, Simpson told officers over the phone that she had gotten into a fight with her sister, Monique Marrufo, 30, also of the address. Later at SCPD, Simpson said that during the argument over who had the right to live there, Marrufo pushed her so she pushed her back and Marrufo grabbed a pair of scissors and threatened her with them.

Simpson told officers that she just wanted her house back, the report said, as she is the one on the lease and Marrufo just lives there. The officer advised Simpson she would have to evict Marrufo and it would be a civil issue.

During the officer’s interview with Marrufo, the report said, Marrufo stated the two sisters argued after she told Simpson to stop kicking the baby’s toys and Simpson hit Marrufo in the head with both hands and pushed Marrufo onto a couch in the hall where Marrufo found a pair of scissors. Marrufo stated she grabbed the scissors and told Simpson to get away from her.

The officer observed redness on the right side of Marrufo’s forehead and she stated she wanted to press charges for battery against Simpson.

Marrufo declined to be seen by EMS.

Charges are pending at this time.
