A Silver City Police Department incident report narrative states that on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2020, at about 5:35 p.m., officers responded to a dog bite call. Arriving at Gila Regional Medical Center, officers found a 12-year-old boy who had been bitten by a 'pit bull terrier' in his yard on Valle Drive. Officers interviewed the child and his mother who stated the child had been playing with neighbor kids outside when the dog climbed under the fence from an adjacent yard. Although the boy ran from the dog it chased him and bit him, they said. The officer observed the boy to have open wounds and he stated he was in pain.

The officer then went to the residence and made contact with the boy's stepfather who showed the officer where the dog had crawled under the fence. The officer, the report stated, saw what appeared to be blood on the back door of the residence.

The officer then made contact with the neighbor, Mario Tinajero, who said their son was playing with the victim when he heard his son yell to run, and the pit bull just started biting.

The officer followed Tinajero as he drove his dog to the shelter where it was put in a kennel. Tinajero stated the pit bull's name was 'Eve,' and that he had the shot record for the dog at his house.

The case has been turned over to Animal Control for further review.
