Cobre High School hosted a College and Career fair for students in grades 9-12 on Tuesday, August 2. We had over 70 people from the community/business industry provide our students with career information. "The overall goal of this event was to spark interest in student's post secondary plans. Helping students "connect the dots" on how to get from here (high school) to there (the career of their dreams) is the outcome we are striving for. Although we have a lot of work to do in this arena, this career fair was definitely a positive start." -Judy Cruz

Freeport McMoran brought equipment and simulators, some from as far as Arizona. The simulators were a hands-on experience for students to try, which simulated actual equipment used at the mine. We are thankful to the entire crew from Freeport that attended the event. PNM also bought equipment from Artesia to showcase to our students. According to PNM Community Manager Bruce Ashburn, there was a big interest in lineman school coming from the students, based on the presentation given by PNM. The demonstration included the safety precautions one should take with a downed power line and overall safety. The New Mexico Department of Transportation also brought equipment to showcase. Native Air flew their helicopter in for the event and students had access to sit in the helicopter and ask questions.

Lt. Governor Howie Morales and State Representative Luis Terrazas were also in attendance at the fair. Cobre High School appreciates everyone's support.
