The Pinos Altos Volunteer Fire and Rescue was paged out about 2 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, to a fire in a 20-foot camping trailer at Highway 15 near Wide Canyon Trail, about two miles below Pinos Altos. When volunteers arrived, Grant County Sheriff's Office deputies were on scene, and although the trailer was still smoldering it was 'pretty much' destroyed, according to PAVFR Chief Ed Downard.

PAVFR rolled an engine, two water tenders, and two mini-engines to the location and cleared the fire by 4 a.m. PAVFR PIO Jennifer Olson told the Beat that approximately a dozen personnel responded to the incident.

The cause of the fire was undetermined, and no injuries were reported, Downard said. No value was given for the loss.
