New Mexico State University Extension specialists Nancy Flores and Michael Patrick, in combination with the New Mexico Food Agency, will present workshops on starting a food business in Silver City and Deming, August 15 and 16. The workshops are free, but limited to 25 in each location.

Workshops will cover a wide range of topics from food safety and microbiology to navigating the permit process to marketing and business plan ideas. Potential food business owners may come from the farmers' market vendors, small scale food processors and startups. The event begins at 8:30 each morning and runs until 4 pm. Lunch is on your own.

The event on August 15 will be held at the Grant County Complex meeting room at 2610 N. Silver St. in Silver City.

On  Aug. 16, the workshops will be held at the La Fonda restaurant in Deming at 601 E. Pine St.
