Gila / Mimbres Community Radio & KURU 89.1 FM are proud to announce a multiweek special feature of our popular Wednesday and Thursday morning drive time program, Local Flavor. The new "mini series" is titled - A Sense of Place.
A Sense of Place will present a conversation between several noted community figures, each bringing a unique cultural perspective on the history and inhabitants of Silver City and its environs over the years.
We are delighted to have such long established and respected residents as Juanita Escobedo, Pep Parotti, Earseye Ross, Kathleen Ryan, Joe Saenz and Kendra Milligan come forward to share their knowledge and experience.
The launch of this exclusive special programming will be Wednesday, 17 February, 2016 at 9am and will continue for 5 weeks during the season of Lent. Local Flavor's Wednesday morning host, Paula Geisler conceived and organized this special feature and has invited Adrienne Booth, a KURU volunteer with a BA from Harvard University in Visual and Environmental Studies, to co-moderate.
The questions to be pondered - one each week in succession - are...
- What did the original landscape look like, and where were its paths, trails, and landmarks to the east, south, west, and north?
- Who were the visionaries, artists, historians, trailblazers, notable personages, and discoverers who came before us, and what are they communicating to us today?
- In the past and the present, where did/do people congregate?
- Where is the heart of the town - past and present?
- What is the civic wound that still festers?
A Sense of Place will be broadcast live on KURU 89.1 FM and streamed on GMCR.org commencing Wednesday 17 February 2016 from 9-10am and each succeeding Wednesday through 16 March 2016.
