On Saturday, October 15, Habitat for Humanity-Gila Region will sponsor a demonstration workshop on installing wet-spray cellulose insulation in the Habitat for Humanity house at 1414 East Pine Street. This hands-on workshop takes place from 10 am til approximately 2 pm and is sponsored by Habitat and Gila Wood Products, LLC, in collaboration with Western Fibers, Inc. of Hollis, Oklahoma.

The attic of the Habitat house will be installed with 12 inches of wet-spray cellulose for an R value of 40; the walls will be R-19 with six inches insulation. Local workers will be trained at this workshop and anyone is welcome to attend all or part of the demonstration. Personnel will be on hand throughout to discuss the use, benefits, and application of this environmentally friendly insulation.

Cellulose insulation is created from recycled cardboard; locally recycled  cardboard will be used for Saturday's application. Gila Wood Products, which is in the process of becoming a satellite of Western Fibers, is cooperating with the Southwest Solid Waste Authority to collect cardboard it receives in recycling for producing locally manufactured cellulose insulation.

The Habitat house build site at 1414 East Pine Street is located a few doors west of Magistrate Court.  This is Habitat's first Energy Star, Build Green New Mexico, and LEED Certified home, demonstrating affordable and sustainable building design and construction.
