PFLAG Silver City’s May 1st meeting will feature the 2013 film Tough Guise 2. The meeting begins at 7:00 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 3845 N. Swan. The public is invited, and refreshments will be served.

In the film, pioneering anti-violence educator and cultural theorist Jackson Katz argues that the ongoing epidemic of men’s violence in America is rooted in our inability as a society to move beyond outmoded ideals of manhood. Led by a retired media educator, meeting participants will view the first half of this 2013 film and discuss it using the current lens of the #MeToo movement, the political climate, continued mass shootings, and the advances of and backlash against LGBTQ people. Tough Guise 2 stands to empower a new generation of young men and women to challenge the myth that being a “real man” means putting up a false front and engaging in violent and self-destructive behavior. The second half of the film will be shown and discussed at the June 5th PFLAG meeting.
