February 24 – at 10:00 am, 3845 North Swan Street - “Universalism: Past, Present and Powerful”

Rev. Kalen Fristad will speak on the long rich history of Universalism; a history which includes opposition of the teaching of eternal damnation. The concept of eternal damnation is not merely a harmless untruth that might appropriately be ignored, but one that has serious consequences. This concept leads to the possibility, perhaps even the inevitability, of wars, bigotry, oppression and abuse. To countermand this, the teaching of Universalism leads to equality, respect, love and dignity for all.

Rev. Kalen Fristad has been a United Methodist minister for more than 40 years, and is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Christian Fellowship. He traveled the country full time with his wife, Darlene, from 2003 to 2006, accepting invitations to speak at churches, countering the teaching that many people will suffer for eternity in hell and proclaiming instead the hopeful message of Universalism.

Following that, he served churches in Iowa half time, while spending half time on the road. He retired from the parish ministry in 2013, but continues to travel the country speaking on Universalism. Over the years he has spoken at more than 200 UU churches.

This is a Family Program Sunday and during February the UU Children's Program will continue our exploration of intangible gifts. Our topic for February 24 will be "The Gift of Protection," referring to the protection of our environment, as well as showing love and respect for our planet Earth.

There will be coffee and conversation after the service, and visitors are always welcome.

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Silver City is a diverse group of religious independents seeking knowledge, spiritual sustenance, fellowship and opportunities for service to others.
