Hello Silver City Community and Makers!

The Future Forge team has been very busy with all the new changes and renovations down at the makerspace in downtown Silver City. We think it’s high time to let everybody know what’s been happening and what will continue to happen.

First and foremost, the Future Forge is a full-blown non-profit now! (Yay!) We have our board, our bylaws all set up, and we are currently in pending for our 501(c)(3) status. Everything else, infrastructure-wise, is looking pretty good and we will have more nitty-gritty info about it on our website soon.

The maker space itself has gone through several renovations as well. We have a front lobby room, a classroom/conference room, lots of dedicated tool areas, and various specific tool/subject zones! We have been working very hard to make the place feel inviting, accessible and productive.

And here’s a very SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT. We are changing our membership rate from $60/month to $45/month. We want the makerspace to be accessible to as many people as possible in our community.

With all the changes happening, we are going to be looking to the community for support!

First, we are looking for volunteers to help run certain spaces, do various tasks, be present various hours, etc. It is very much a new process for us to have volunteers and not just be the 4-5 people that have been doing every bit of maintenance, infrastructure and administrative tasks! The volunteering systems will be a learning process for all of us.

Second, we have a tool/equipment wishlist. Please let us know if you are interested in donating or buying one (or more) of these tools for us. This equipment will be very well utilized by our community.

Third, we’ll soon be facilitating classes, workshops and other community events. Expect to see more skill building opportunities coming into play! We are looking for instructors with special skillsets such as, but not limited to, metal working, welding, and woodworking. Please let us know if you or someone you know would like to teach any of these skills. And if you have any other skills or arts that you would like to teach, please get in touch with us!

The last thing we want to mention is our official reopening date. We will be hosting an Open Night on Saturday February 8th! You are cordially invited to come in and see what the space is all about! More information to follow!

Thank you for supporting the Future Forge and reading this long-winded email! This year will be a great step forward for making and increasing access to new ways to forge our future!
