February 16, at 10:00 am, 3845 North Swan Street - "The Tortilla Star”

Local book author, Abbey Carpenter, will discuss her book “The Tortilla Star.” It is the story of an English as a Second Language teacher who opens her heart to a richer definition of family when she is welcomed into the world of undocumented immigrants through her relationship with a Mexican man.

Carpenter wrote her master’s thesis on “Sustainable Fiction: Incorporating Aspects of Social Justice and Environmental Sustainability into Contemporary Fiction” and this idea will be part of the discussion. Today’s program is in keeping with our Sixth UU Principle: "The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and just for all.”

Childcare and creative activities will be available for the youngsters.

There will be coffee and conversation after the service, and visitors are always welcome.
