Tuesday, March 3, 2019 5:00-7:00pm at Bayard Community Center

The Southwestern Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union in conjunction with the ACLU of New Mexico will be hosting a free Criminal Record Expungement Workshop on Tuesday March 3rd from 5-7pm at the Bayard Community Center.  One in three Americans have a criminal record that will show up on a routine background check. Convictions, dismissals, and even arrests are public record. The American Bar Association estimates there are 48,000 ways a person can be affected by a criminal record including in housing, employment, occupational licenses, and immigration. In 2019, state legislation was passed to make expungement a more stream-lined process for New Mexicans. Expunged records are removed from public view and no longer reported on background checks. Attendees will learn about what expungement is, who is eligible to receive expungement, and how the process works. Please RSVP at www.aclu-nm.org/Bayard. Burritos and refreshments will be served.
