Acting for the Zoom Camera - Part 2

“We had such a fun time and learned so much at the first workshop; we decided to do it again on Saturday, January, 16,” said Chellee Chase, Silver City Community Theatre (SCCT) Board Secretary. “The workshop is designed to be an easy-to-access, fun, and uniquely empowering acting class for all ages and experience levels. It will be taught by Wendy Spurgeon, a former professional acting teacher and current virtual events producer, this class will combine classic stage acting techniques with user-friendly Zoom presentation tips.”

“We’re asking for a donation for this workshop,” said Chase. “This is the fifth SCCT Zoom production and the second for which we’re requesting a donation. SCCT needs and appreciates the support of our community as we pursue our Mission to enrich, educate and entertain in these stressful times.”

Chase says, “Wendy has made everything easy for participants. Everything you need to enjoy this great class is accessible from an easy to remember link....thewayoftruth.live/scct.  Just type that link into your browser (the address bar at the top of your computer screen, not Google) and press enter.  There's no www.... just thewayoftruth.live/scct and press enter.

“You've now entered the event registration page, which is also the page you'll go to on the workshop day. I recommend folks bookmark the page, or make sure you write down the link in your calendar and return there on Saturday, November 21 a few minutes before class starts at 2 pm.

“You'll see easy instructions on how to register for the class, and how to pay for the class in advance.  Register right away!  You'll receive an immediate email thank you confirmation message that includes a short welcome video from Wendy, and your next steps to feeling prepared and ready to play on workshop day.  You'll see a link to access a 20 minute Full Zoom Tutorial video, as well as the link to download and print out your Open Scene Script handout prior to class.

“You'll also receive email reminders the week before, day before, and morning before the class with the special Zoom passcode you'll need to enter the classroom as well as some fun preparation videos to help you feel prepared, confident and excited about the class coming up.

“On workshop day, just return to thewayoftruth.live/scct and you'll see a highlighted link to "Wendy's Rehearsal Zoom Room." Click, and you've now entered the Zoom classroom space. One Click Easy!"

According to the instructor, Wendy Spurgeon, “Once you’re in the Zoom classroom space, the class will feel a lot like a traditional acting class.  We'll have some meet and greet, and do some physical and vocal warm-ups, before we work on our "open scenes" (which you printed in advance, or have pulled up on your smart phone if you prefer).  You'll be assigned a scene partner, and be "sent" into a Zoom breakout room to rehearse with your partner.  I will be able to pop into your room and offer coaching and feedback.

“Then after a designated amount of time, I will bring you all back to the main room to present your scenes for the group.  Depending on the size of the group, we may be able to repeat the process with new scenes and new partners.

"My goal for this class is to give participants an enjoyable experience of acting and performing over Zoom, so they can feel inspired and confident to audition and participate in SCCT Zoom plays in the New Year!"

“Be the Community in Community Theater—join SCCT! Individual and family memberships receive tickets and admission to opening night parties and workshops.  Family memberships are $35; individual memberships, $20. Additionally, we have great community sponsors and recognize them in programs and other publications,” according to McQuaide.

A home-grown theater company, SCCT grew out of a series of acting classes presented by The Western Institute for Lifelong Learning (WILL). Several class members joined forces to create the Silver City Community Theatre. Now after 6 years and many productions, SCCT’s mission continues: to enrich, educate and entertain the Silver City and Grant County communities by providing a broad range of live theater experiences on a recurring, seasonal basis.
