Quemado, NM, January 27, 2021—For Immediate Release. The Gila National Forest, Quemado Ranger District is hiring a Veterans Fuel crew of three personnel for the upcoming field season. This crew would complete fuels related work including setting fuels plots, monitoring fuel moistures, thinning, helping with prescribed burning and prescribed fire preparation, wildfire suppression, and possibly working with a local Type 6 engine or local Wildland Fire Module.

The requirements for this position are:

• Must have a General or Honorable Discharge
• Must have current resume
• Must have DD-214
• Must be able to pass the arduous Work Capacity Test (aka pack test) – which is completion of the walking test, three (3) miles in under 45 minutes carrying a 45-pound pack
