Silver City MainStreet collaborated with El Grito Head Start to make sure the young trick or treaters will have a Happy Halloween. Thanks to the work of Brenda Tozier, Administrative Assistant, many downtown merchants will be handing out candy this Friday, October 29. They will start about 9:30am and walk to the downtown merchants. The Murray Ryan Visitor Center will be one of the stops. Please be on the lookout for these young people in their costumes.

Tozier states, "We are so excited to be getting back to something close to normal and being able to help get merchants signed up to hand out candy to the El Grito Head Start kids. The merchants were very open to handing out candy and really enjoy seeing the kids in their Halloween costumes. At least 29 merchants have agreed to hand out candy to the trick-or-treaters and we really appreciate everyone banding together to make this happen."

Millie Moyer of El Grito Head Start states, “The children at El Grito have always loved to go Trick or Treating downtown. Last year due to COVID the children missed out.

Luckily, this year they are able to go walking downtown and it’s not just about the candy, it is socialization, feeling recognized by the community, and being welcomed by the merchants. Not only Halloween was affected by COVID last year; other field trips and activities were cancelled as well. So, thank you Silver City downtown merchants for opening your doors to our little ghost and goblins. You have made them so very happy!”

The mission of Silver City MainStreet is "To encourage a vibrant, historic downtown Silver City that is recognized as the heart of our diverse community." Please visit our website, www.silvercitymainstreet.com to learn more.
