On Saturday, April 15 at 10 am, author and writing instructor Kris Neri will offer a free 2-hour workshop on characterization: Creating Characters that Live off the Page: How to Capture Compelling Characters. This workshop is part of The Write Stuff, a series of writing presentations from Southwest Word Fiesta. It will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Silver City, 3845 N Swan St, Silver City, NM.

All fiction writers need to create unforgettable characters. Kris Neri will show attendees how to create characters from their deepest cores, through all their layers -- characters that seem as unforgettable as real people. She will share basic, intermediate, and advanced techniques to give attendees the tools to capture characters that readers will take to their hearts.

The workshop will be equally valuable for memoir and creative nonfiction writers, as it is for novelists and short story writers. Those writing memoirs, historical, and other forms of nonfiction also need techniques to explore the real people they plan to write about.

Kris teaches writing online for the Writers’ Program of the UCLA Extension School and is one of their highest rated instructors. Her latest novel, Hopscotch Life, featuring quirky protagonist Plum Tardy, is a New Mexico-Arizona Book Award winner. She also writes the Tracy Eaton mysteries. Kris is a four-time New Mexico-Arizona Book Award winner for her own novels, as well as books to which she’s contributed. Visit her website: krisneriauthor.wordpress.com.

There is no charge to attend the workshop, but a small donation is requested to help pay for the use of the space.
