June 11, at 10:00 am, 3845 North Swan Street – "Preparing for the 'Silver Tsunami' -
The Role of Death Doulas at the End of Life"

Though the vast majority of Americans say that they would like to die at home, few actually do so, primarily due to a lack of planning, but also because of insufficient capacity and resources at the end of life, according to Lisa Jimenez, a certified Death Doula.

On Sunday, June 11, she, and fellow death doula Scott Plate will discuss the role of the doula at the end of life at the 10 am gathering of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Silver City, 3845 N. Swan Street. They will also offer suggestions on how anyone can begin now to create their own "good death."

Lisa Jimenez moved to Silver City in 2001 from Chicago, and is a journalist and political scientist by training; a trained skeptic. "Much to my surprise I was called by Spirit in 2015 to walk the path of the Shamanic Healer, and I am now a practitioner of Shamanic Healing Arts, as well as a Reiki Master and Death Doula," she said. "I would never have imagined this for myself.

Jimenez is also a freelance writer and editor, teacher, and sacred pipe carrier and fire keeper in the Lakota tradition.

Scott Plate is a certified Life Coach and trained Death Doula. He is a pathfinder with decades of experience as an expressive therapist, and as an award-winning actor, director, and educator. His students and clients work at the highest levels of the entertainment industry, and as fine artists, counselors, clinicians, educators, and clergy. He has been initiated into the Pachakuti Mesa Tradition, a cross-cultural shamanic path for personal and planetary healing.

"For as long as I can remember, death has been a steady presence in my life. It is now a guide I welcome with open arms, and a key to my becoming," Plate said. This Sunday there will be a Children's Religious Education program. Parents are invited to bring children four years old and above to attend youth-led classes. Ninth grader Ivy Stephens-Etheridge, a former CRE student, will read a story and lead a lesson on "Life Cycles."

UUFSC Safety Protocol as pursuant to our most recent UUA Guidelines: Masks are now optional, but their use is encouraged. We will continue to serve refreshments on the patio and in the building. Visitors are always welcome.
