Pick It Up – Toss No Mas August Back-to-School Community Trash Cleanup on
Saturday, August 19th at 9 am – 12 pm at Grant County Community Foundation parking lot

Pick It Up-Toss No Mas invites the community to start the school year off right by joining us in a community-wide clean up on Saturday, August 19th, 2023 at the Grant County Community Foundation parking lot from 9 am - noon. The first 10 students to volunteer will receive a free Silver City Watershed Keepers backpack for the new school year! Help us keep our community and waterways free of litter as the school year begins!

Stop by our new location, the Grant County Community Foundation parking lot at 1106 North Pope Street, at 9 am on Saturday, August 19th and grab your supplies, including trash bags, gloves, trash pickers, snacks, and free t-shirts for new volunteers.

Don’t forget, once you’ve finished filling up your trash bags, return to the parking lot and drop off all trash and recyclables between 11am and noon. We’ll record your cleanup results which could qualify you for a prize!

Volunteers should wear closed-toe shoes and bring a hat, water bottle, and sunscreen. Children 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Families with younger children are encouraged to clean up litter in their neighborhood, local parks or waterways as children under 12 are not permitted on state highways for the cleanup.

Thank you to the New Mexico Department of Transportation for hauling the collected trash to the landfill. Recyclables will be recycled with Silver City Recycles.

We’d like to extend a big thank you to our businesses in Silver City who have recently taken the business pledge to keep their section of Highway 180 free of unnecessary litter. We express our sincere appreciation to the In-N-Out Lube & Wash, Billings Enterprises, State Farm Insurance, and W&N Enterprises for playing an active role in creating a cleaner and greener tomorrow for all of us. Thank you for leading the way by taking the initiative to make a positive impact on our environment!

Check out the new Pick It Up-Toss No Mas website www.silvercitytossnomas.org to sign up to volunteer and to learn about litter prevention opportunities, the business pledge program, Adopt-A-Roadway or Waterway program, and solid waste disposal and recycling resources.
