Free classes on basic computer literacy will resume at the Silver City Public Library in August, following a summer hiatus. The two-part series will take place Wednesday, August 16, 3:00-5:00 pm and Wednesday, August 30, 3:00-5:00 pm. Open technology labs, where anyone can ask any tech question, continued through the summer. The next open tech lab will be Wednesday, August 23, 3;00pm-5:00pm. The library is also offering a workshop specifically to help people get started with library digital services, including e-books; downloadable audiobooks; downloadable movies, TV, and music; comics; language learning; and more. The library digital services workshop will be Monday, August 21, 10:00am.

The August 16 and 30 basic computer classes will guide students through the basics of operation and usage for Windows computers.  Silver City Public Library staff will teach mouse and keyboard usage, program usage, file and folder structure, email and web browser usage, along with document creation and editing and other similar basic tasks that involve using computers. This class will be Windows only. Class registration can be done in person at the library building or over the phone.  Class size is limited, but if the class fills up, registrants will be put into an alternates list or registered in advance for the next class session!

Library open technology labs are opportunities to bring your own device and ask any troubleshooting questions you have. You can also practice computer skills on a library laptop, or get started with library digital services. Community members can drop in to the next open lab Wednesday, August 23, between 3:00pm and 5:00pm, no registration required.

The Silver City Public Library will host a library digital services workshop Monday, August 21, 10:00am. The library digital services workshop will show people how to get started with Libby, hoopla, Flipster, ComicsPlus, Rocket Languages, and Ancestry with their library card. Free access to the New York Times via the library website will also be discussed. To be prepared, workshop attendees are encouraged to obtain a library card or check to make sure their library card is up-to-date before the workshop. No registration is required.
