SWFAdemoSW Women’s Fiber Arts Collective (SWFAC) is pleased to participate in the Silver City Art Association’s 25th Weekend at the Galleries with the Holiday Fiber Arts Sale. This free annual event is a pop-up gallery and will be held Saturday October 7 from 10 am to 7 pm and Sunday October 8 from 10 am to 2 pm in the ballroom of the Murray Hotel in Downtown Silver City.

Along with the work of 18 fiber artists for sale, there are opportunities to learn about different fiber art techniques from the members selling and demonstrating fiber art. SWFAC will have educational displays at the welcome booth, and you can learn to make a woven heart basket as a free make and take activity.

Starting at 4 pm on Saturday, October 7, members will be demonstrating weaving on a four-shaft table loom, pin looms, and woven photography cards. Members will also be demonstrating in the sale area embroidery, visible mending, inkle weaving and more. “If you want to learn about fiber art and ask questions, this is a great opportunity for all ages”, states Mary Ragins, vice-president and chair of demonstrations for the sale. “The group demonstrations are always fun and members enjoy sharing their skills. We want to encourage the next generation of fiber artisans and new members to SWFAC.”

The sale will include hats, gloves, totes, rag rugs, scarves, purses, wall hangings, quilts, upcycled clothing, home décor, pine needle baskets, felt sculptures, tie dyed and silk painted garments, greeting cards, toys, and handwoven towels among a multitude of other handcrafted fiber items. The wide range of fiber mediums encompassed in this sale are knitting, weaving, felting, crocheting, quilting, embroidery, painting, dying, and sewing. This is a wonderful opportunity to shop for a unique holiday gift and will support local fiber artists, keeping our local dollars local.

The sale will also feature Weaving for Justice, a non-profit that supports fiber artists in Chiapas. They will be selling handwoven and embroidered textiles.

Beverages and baked goods by Bev Bean will be available for sale in the lobby with
