Gains for New Mexico Economy Expected

Washington, DC (November 16, 2012) – Today, U.S. Congressman Steve Pearce voted in favor of H.R. 6156, which creates Permanent Normal Trade Relations with Russia.

“The ability to trade freely with Russia presents great opportunities for American businesses,” said Pearce.  “Numerous employers in New Mexico do business with Russia, including rapidly growing New Mexican exports to Russia in recent years.  Today's bill provides the stability and certainty needed to protect that commerce, and create more jobs for New Mexicans.”

H.R. 6156 passed the House with strong bipartisan approval.  The agreement has had overwhelming support from American businesses and business groups, including the American Farm Bureau Federation and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.  The United States has operated under normal trade relations with Russia since 1992.

Rep. Pearce has made jobs his top priority in Congress, and has been a strong advocate of export opportunities for American businesses.
