The Emergency Food & Shelter National Board Program, a federal program administered by the U.S Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency, announced that Grant County has been awarded $9104 to supplement and expand ongoing efforts to provide shelter, food, and supportive services for the hungry and homeless and for those in economic crisis.

The local board for Grant County will decide the distribution of the funds based on established priorities among community needs according to a news release. The board ensures that the allocation of these funds goes to non-profit (501) (C)(3) status and government emergency food and shelter agencies and assists in monitoring program compliance. Seven agencies have qualified to be a local board recipient organization for these funds: El Refugio, Inc, St. Francis Associates, Gospel Mission, St. Vincent De Paul Parish Food Ministry, SPIN, and The Commons. Each organization serves and responds to the targeted populations and are experiencing greater demands for assistance due to the economic challenges and destitution in the community.

Non-profit organizations interested in applying to qualify as an LRO and be included in the distribution of these funds must apply by Friday, March 1, 2023.
