PEARCE: THE IRS HAS SHOWN IT CANNOT BE TRUSTED WITH OUR HEALTHCARE

Washington, DC (August 2, 2013) – This year, it has become blatantly evident that the IRS has demonstrated a flagrant disregard for Americans’ privacy, liberties, and rights to fair treatment.  In response, U.S. Congressman Steve Pearce today voted for H.R. 2009, the Keep the IRS Off Your Health Care Act.

“Under Obamacare, the IRS will be in charge of the nation’s healthcare decisions” said Pearce.  “The IRS has shown plainly that it cannot be trusted. Americans are still waiting for answers and accountability after the IRS used its tremendous power to change elections and target Americans based on their personal beliefs.  Now, the President is asking us to hand over control of own personal healthcare decisions to this scandal-ridden, discredited agency.  But if the IRS cannot be trusted to handle routine audits responsibly and impartially, we cannot possibly entrust the IRS with our healthcare—with our lives, and the lives of our children, our families, and our loved ones.”

H.R. 2009 would prohibit the IRS from implementing or enforcing any provision of the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare.

Congressman Pearce is a cosponsor of H.R. 2009, and has been in close contact with constituents on this issue.  On a recent email survey sent to over 50,000 randomly chosen constituents earlier this year, 79% of respondents said they were concerned about the IRS’ role in managing the new healthcare law, in light of its criminal targeting of organizations for political purposes.
