New Mexico's total renewable generation capacity is now more than 1 million kilowatts

Santa Fe, NM— The Energy Conservation and Management Division (ECMD) of the New Mexico Energy, Minerals & Natural Resources Department (EMNRD) was recently honored with a

"2014 State Leadership in Clean Energy" Award for its New Mexico Renewable Energy Production Tax Credit Program.

"This innovative program has advanced development of New Mexico's clean energy resources and promoted economic development," said Cabinet Secretary David Martin. "New Mexico is positioned as a leader in clean energy. Our Energy Conservation and Management Division is truly deserving of this award."

The Renewable Energy Production Tax Credit Program supports utility-scale wind, biomass, and solar projects in New Mexico by providing refundable 10-year tax credits to renewable energy developers. The innovative program involved collaboration between utilities, industry, and state government. It has resulted in long-term economic and societal benefits, leveraged private investment, and increased renewable energy deployment. As a direct result of the REPTC, New Mexico's total renewable generation capacity is now more than1 million kilowatts, the equivalent power for 333,500 homes.

New Mexico's Renewable Energy Production Tax Credit Program was one of only eight programs nationwide honored by the Clean Energy States Alliance (CESA) with the clean energy award. CESA is a nonprofit coalition of public agencies working together to advance clean energy. CESA established the biennial clean energy awards to highlight model programs and projects that have accelerated the adoption of clean energy technologies and strengthened clean energy markets.
