Las Cruces, NM – The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) and Safer New Mexico Now (Safer) will host a Child Safety Seat Fitting Station from 4 to 6 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month at Sisbarro Buick-GMC, 425 West Boutz Road, in Las Cruces, NM. This free educational event provides parents and caregivers the opportunity to receive “hands-on” instruction from nationally-certified child passenger safety technicians. Technicians will educate parents on the proper selection, installation, and use of car seats and booster seats. Technicians can also determine if a seat is recalled, expired, or otherwise unsafe.

Fitting stations offer appointments during regular hours of operation at a permanent location. The NMDOT and Safer host 10 permanent fitting stations throughout the State, including Alamogordo, Albuquerque (three locations), Artesia, Farmington, Las Cruces, Rio Rancho, and Santa Fe (two locations).

Fitting Stations are a public service funded by the NMDOT and is available to everyone. Appointments take approximately 30 minutes per seat. Parents will need to bring their child safety seat, and if possible, the child.  There is no charge for the service, however a seat replacement fee may apply. Appointments are encouraged. For more information or to make an appointment, please call (800) 231-6145.
