Tucumcari, NM-On December 6, 2019, at approximately 9:13 p.m., New Mexico State Police and the Tucumcari Police Department officers responded to a shooting incident located at 2402 S. 1st Street, the local Pizza Hut restaurant in Tucumcari, NM.  When officers arrived, they located two male subjects outside within close proximity to the restaurant (one deceased and the other critically wounded).

New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau agents were called to investigate the shooting. State Police agents learned through investigation Jimmy Chavez was confronted by Flip Anaya (23) of Tucumcari inside the Pizza Hut and a verbal argument ensued.  As both individuals exited the restaurant, Anaya brandished a firearm and fired it towards Mr. Chavez, striking him.  Mr. Chavez was later pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of Medical Investigator. As officers arrived at the establishment, Anaya shot himself in the head and was transported to the local hospital.  He was airlifted to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, TX for treatment.

On December 7, 2019 at approximately 6:19 p.m., Flip Anaya succumbed to his injuries and he was pronounced deceased at the Northwest Texas Hospital. 

New Mexico State Police Crime Scene assisted with the investigation. No further information is available.
