Albuquerque, December 11 -- Brook Bassan is heading to City Hall. Bassan defeated Ane Romero in yesterday's runoff election for the City Council District 4 seat. Bassan, a registered Republican, won the runoff, capturing 53.5% of the vote. Nearly 8,000 votes were cast in the election.

Bassan's victory helps Republicans retain the District 4 Council seat after Brad Winter decided not to seek reelection after five terms. District 4 represents the Northeast Heights section of Albuquerque.

Trump Victory staff, the Republican Party of New Mexico along with local college Republicans helped Bassan win following a strong grassroots campaign. That effort included knocking on more than 2,500 doors in the district.

The PTA President and mother of four says she realizes there's a lot of work ahead and that she's in the minority on the Council, stressing Councilors have to find a way to compromise. Bassan says she'll work hard to benefit all the people of Albuquerque.

Bassan will be sworn into office January 3, 2020 during a ceremony at the Convention Center.
