Dona Ana, NM - On January 16, 2020 at about 5:15 a.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a pedestrian that was fatally struck by a vehicle on Interstate 10, near mile post 153, by Mesquite, NM. 

The initial investigation indicated a 2009 Jeep Cherokee was traveling west on Interstate 10. For reasons unknown a pedestrian, Andrew Gutierrez (18) of El Paso, TX ran across Interstate 10 and was struck in the middle lane of the roadway by the Jeep. Gutierrez sustained fatal injuries in the crash, and he was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.

The driver of the Jeep, who will not be named at this time, is not currently facing charges. The driver was not injured in the crash. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash and seatbelts appear to have been properly utilized by the driver.
