McKinley County- On Saturday, February 8, 2020, New Mexico State Police Uniform Officers comprised of district officers from Grants and Gallup conducted a traffic safety operation in McKinley County. The purpose of the operation was to target impaired drivers who are under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs. 

During the operation, officers made a total of 155 traffic stops around Gallup and adjacent areas. Of those traffic stops, 11 people were arrested for driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs and 2 other people were arrested for separate charges. Officers also issued 33 citations and assisted 2 people during the operation.

New Mexico State Police conducts operations throughout the year to reduce alcohol related fatalities.  State Police are also out every day and night and will continue to look for impaired drivers throughout the state.  We encourage the public to drive safely and obey all traffic laws while traveling the motorways of New Mexico.
