San Miguel County, NM - On February 18, 2020 at about 12:17 p.m. the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash on State Road 518 around mile post 4, north of Las Vegas, NM.

The initial investigation indicates a head-on-collision occurred between a 2014 Nissan and a 2013 Cadillac. The details leading up to the crash are still under investigation. The driver of the Nissan, a female of Taos, NM (27) was airlifted to an Albuquerque hospital. The driver of the Cadillac, a female of Las Vegas, NM (22) was transported to an area hospital. Maria Adela Urioste (72) of Las Vegas, NM, a passenger in the Cadillac sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased on scene. 

The identity of the drivers will not be released at this time. New Mexico State Police does not immediately identify survivors involved in fatal crashes, their injuries or the hospitals they were taken too.  

Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash.  Seatbelts appear to have been properly utilized.  The crash is still under investigation by the New Mexico State Police with assistance from the New Mexico State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit. No additional information available at this time.
