(Courtesy photo)The Innoventure program offered by Arrowhead Center at New Mexico State University will host free virtual camps themed "Innovate Adventure" for elementary and middle school students this summer.

Camp Innoventure for middle school students will take place from June 29-Aug. 3, and from July 20-27 for elementary students.

Students may register for the week and can either join in the virtual live classroom or watch the video later.

Middle school students and parents can choose their time: half hour sessions run live from 11-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-2 p.m. daily. The same information will be offered each session. For elementary students, live classes are only held once a day from 3-3:30 p.m. Each week, students will look at different types of industry, so students are welcome to join multiple weeks.

"Each day we will be learning about different types of business and industries. We will work as a group during class time and then students will have an assignment to do at their home on their own," said Lydia Hammond, Innoventure deputy director and class instructor.

"For example, the day we talk about the construction industry students will then build a house out of cardboard, or draw a map of their home, or build the tallest structure they can out of recyclable goods," Hammond said. "They will have different hands-on activities to connect with what we have talked about. If they complete all five activities, they will receive a digital certificate for being an Innoventurer."

The class will be coordinated through the Canvas online program. Once students are registered, parents will be sent the Canvas sign up information and other notifications. Students will be able to see a recorded video of the lesson if they miss a day on Canvas.

Registration is free and may be completed at https://arrowheadcenter.nmsu.edu/program/innoventure/camp-innoventure/
