SANTA FE – The drop box at the San Juan County Income Support Division office in Farmington, N.M. was vandalized by a fire that was intentionally set, announced the New Mexico Human Services Department. Employees discovered the vandalism this morning and the documents in the drop box at the time of the incident were destroyed. A police report has been filed and the department is working to get the box repaired.

There were approximately seven envelopes in the drop box at the time of the incident. We strongly encourage anyone who applied for benefits and submitted their paperwork in the drop box - to turn in a new application or if they submitted documentation to call 1-800-283-4465 or come by the office during curbside hours: 10 a.m. to noon for assistance.

“This type of vandalism is unconscionable conduct and has not happened to any Income Support Division office in at least the past 15-years,” said Karmela Martinez Income Support Division, director. “We are working with local law enforcement to track down the perpetrators.”
