Luna County, NM - On July 12, 2020 at around 12:30 a.m., the New Mexico State Police responded to a fatal single-vehicle rollover on Interstate 10 westbound at about milepost 72 near Deming. The crash involved a Chevy Suburban carrying a mother and father with their six children who were traveling home to San Diego, CA.

The initial investigation indicates that the Suburban, driven by the thirty-seven-year-old mother was traveling west on Interstate 10. For reasons believed to be due to driver fatigue, the vehicle left the roadway and rolled. During the crash, a twelve-year-old female and a ten-year-old male sustained fatal injuries. The female was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator, and the male later died at the hospital.

The mother, along with the forty-two-year-old father and a sixteen-year-old male were all injured in the crash and transported to an area hospital for treatment of what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. Their current condition is not known.  The remaining three passengers, a seven-year-old female, a five-year-old male, and a three-year-old male were all uninjured and transported to the hospital with their parents.

Alcohol was not involved, and seatbelts were properly used. The name of the driver will not be released as no charges have been currently filed. For the privacy of the family, the names of the deceased children and the other victims will not be released via press release. This crash remains under investigation by the New Mexico State Police.
