SANTA FE — Today, the New Mexico Departments of Environment (NMED) and Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources (EMNRD) announce an extension of the informal public input period on the agencies’ recently released draft rules regulating waste, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and oxides of nitrogen (NOx). Feedback on both rules must be submitted by 5 p.m. September 16, 2020.

Throughout the process to develop these regulations, our Departments conducted extensive public outreach and considered stakeholder feedback. We are providing this additional time in response to concerns from stakeholders and members of the public and to ensure adequate time for meaningful review and feedback.

While opportunities for public comment are only required on the final draft rules, NMED and EMNRD are committed to collaboration, transparency and stakeholder feedback. Feedback at this crucial stage of the process will ensure our agencies craft nationally leading regulations.

To submit feedback on the NMED draft rule, email nm.oai@state.nm.us or mail to Liz Bisbey-Kuehn, NMED Air Quality Bureau, 525 Camino de los Marquez, Santa Fe, NM 87505. To submit feedback on the EMNRD draft rule, email EMNRD.WasteRule@state.nm.us or mail to Tiffany Polak, 3rd Floor, Wendell Chino Building, 1220 South St. Francis Drive, Santa Fe, New Mexico, 87505.

A virtual listening session on the draft rules will be from 4-6 p.m. tonight, Aug. 6. More information is available here.
